Friday Morning

The following story is a true story. Names have been changed to protect the innocent. Because the author is, in fact, innocent. Driving to school this am: Jane observes the school zone lights flashing, therefore she slows down. She realizes she's almost out of the school zone. Just another few feet...so she begins to accelerate. Jane signals, slow downs, and makes a right turn into the school. But WAIT! Are those blue lights flashing behind her? Why, YES. Here is a replay of the events: Jane:(Rolling down the window) Good morning, officer. Officer: Do you know why I pulled you over? Jane: No, Officer. Officer: Well, Ma'am you were speeding. Do you know how fast you were going? Jane: (confused) No. Officer: I clocked you going 18mph. Jane: (now, further confused) 18mph in a 30mph? Officer: No. 18mph in a 15mph school zone. License and proof of insurance, please. Jane: (VERY confused, hands the requested documents) Officer: I'll be back in just a minute. Jane: (sits and waits) Officer: (returning with a white piece of paper) I'm going to ask you to please sign this citation, Ma'am. Jane: A ticket? For going over by 3mph? Officer: That and because you have out of state auto insurance. Jane: Excuse me? I'm getting a ticket for having ALABAMA insurance?! We just moved back from AL. Officer: Well, have you changed your auto insurance? Jane: (getting irritated)Yes, I did change our auto insurance to TN, but I haven't received my new id cards. Officer: Well you have 30 days from moving to do this, and your TN license was issued in June. Jane: But isn't out-of-state insurance better than NO insurance? Officer: Ma'am, I'm going to ask you once again to sign the citation. You have a scheduled court date of Sept 30. Jane: (signing citation) I don't get this. At least I have insurance. (hands it back to officer) Officer: (handing me my yellow copy) Have a great weekend. Jane: (hand shaking, steam coming out of ears, fire coming out of eyes). You too, Officer.
